Our diocesan team provides an essential link between CAFOD nationally, our partners in parishes, schools locally, and projects and communities overseas, in over 40 countries around the world. Together we are responsible for the development and delivery of CAFOD’s local programmes through a range of initiatives involving prayer, taking action, giving and learning about the causes of poverty and injustice in our world.
CAFOD’s story is one of ordinary people coming together to transform the world. Beginning back in 1960 with a group of Catholic women coming together to raise funds for a mother and baby health emergency in the Caribbean island of Dominica.
Today CAFOD volunteers raise millions of pounds from the Catholic community of England and Wales to support the vital work of our partners who are working in some of the world’s poorest communities.
Inspired by faith, our volunteers come from all walks of life and from many different backgrounds, but they all share a belief and dedication to CAFOD’s work to bring about lasting and positive change.
During the last year, nearly 2,000 people volunteered for CAFOD and between them they donated over 100,000 hours of their time. This incredible generosity saved CAFOD at least £600,000 which could then be used on programmes overseas.
