If you want to challenge yourself this year, perhaps your New Year resolutions included getting more fit and active, then this is the perfect time for you to join Team CAFOD.
Whether you run, walk, cycle or just like to bake cakes, whatever you like doing, you could challenge yourself (and your friends and family) and by joining Team CAFOD you could raise money for a great cause – helping people tackling poverty around the world.
Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a runner? You can now enter the ballot for the Great North Run in September. England’s most famous half marathon is a fantastic race to train for through the year and if you get a place you’ll be supported with our weekly newsletters and training plans to help you reach your goals. Please see the Great North Run website to enter the ballot.
There are other Great runs available, see the Great Runs website to enter any of these organised events that are coming up here – see where you fancy going this year.
Take on a marathon
If you have always wanted to achieve a marathon then this is the year for you.
This spring, CAFOD has places in the Brighton marathon, a popular and picturesque route by the coast, which takes place on 6 April. If you are interested in joining us then please download an application form from our Brighton marathon webpage.
This autumn, on Sunday 12 October, you can take part in the Yorkshire Marathon. This brand new race was hugely popular last year and its second year looks to be even more successful. See our Yorkshire Marathon webpage to download an application form.
Not only will getting into training be great for your health and fitness, but you will know that the money you raise will be going straight to help the men and women living in poverty overseas. But if running is not your thing, then perhaps you would like to walk?
Walk the pilgrims route
You could walk the final 100 miles of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, a pilgrimage journey along the way of St James. All the information you need to get started is in our comprehensive Camino information booklet. You will need to organise your pilgrimage, but we are here to put you in touch with fellow pilgrims, support you with your plans and organise your Pilgrim Passport. Judith and Barbara both walked this route last year.
Or, if you want to try something closer to home, get sponsored to walk to Walsingham.
Each year, students at Notre Dame High School get sponsored for their charity walk.
Choose your own challenge
If you want a challenge and have your eye on any other event – it could be a bake-off or a triathlon or almost anything – please get in touch using our online form once you’ve entered your event so that we can welcome you properly to Team CAFOD.
If you would like information on supporting CAFOD by participating in any event please email the CAFOD events team.
