Caritas International’s global campaign focuses on food and the right to food. The campaign is based around ‘lifestyle’ choices and a request to analyse the causes of hunger in each of the Caritas networks member countries. Please join us as we pray.
The campaign launches on 10th December – World Human Rights Day – and is “an opportunity to highlight that food is a basic human right. Everyone should be able to have access to safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food in sufficient quantity and quality to sustain a healthy life with full human dignity.”
This is part of CAFOD’s Hunger for Change campaign and reflects our focus on providing support for small farmers/producers and how our lifestyles help us be global citizens.
The campaign is launched by a wave of prayer. Starting in Oceania, Caritas organisations around the world will pray for an end to hunger and reflect on issues around hunger at midday their time. Many of our Caritas partners will be part of this activity.
Please be part of the wave of prayer, joining us as we say:
O God, you entrusted to us the fruits of all creation so that we might care for the earth and be nourished with its bounty.
You sent us your Son to share our very flesh and blood and to teach us your Law of Love. Through His death and resurrection, we have been formed into one human family.
Jesus showed great concern for those who had no food – even transforming five loaves and two fish into a banquet that served five thousand and many more.
We come before you, O God, conscious of our faults and failures, but full of hope, to share food with all members in this global family.
Through your wisdom, inspire leaders of government and of business, as well as all the world’s citizens, to find just, and charitable solutions to end hunger by assuring that all people enjoy the right to food.
Thus we pray, O God, that when we present ourselves for Divine Judgment, we can proclaim ourselves as “One Human Family” with “Food for All”. AMEN.
