Tour de Fred – Stage 17 – Great Chesterford to Cambridge, 14.6 miles

Coming from Brentwood, when Fred gets to East Anglia diocese, he still has 14.6 miles to complete from Great Chesterford to Cambridge on stage 17 of his grand tour.

Stage 17 - 24 JuneFlamme RougeThe route to Cambridge offers Fred and his co-cyclist Mark Brown, a fairly gentle introduction to East Anglia. There are a couple of small climbs on the route as they head toward Cambridge City, between Great Shelford and Cherry Hinton, on the Hinton Way and Limekiln Road when a breakaway could go clear. After this the going gets technical with a number of turns. First Fred is leading the RE class for two year seven groups at St Bede’s Inter-Church School. He then procedes across south Cambridge to the feeding station set up by girls of St Mary’s Junior School, where Fred leads a quick assembly.  As he turns toward the finishing line, passing the final kilometer, traditionally marked by a red flag – the flamme rouge – Fred navigates the tricky bends and he is led out onto the final straight by our own Stephen Matthews, sprinting for the finish line at St Alban’s primary school.
